Our Bees are our lives. We love and care for them. We respect, protect and nurture them. So nothing could be more fitting than naming our Company Beyla‘s Bees.
Beyla was the Norse goddess of all things Honeybees and since the drink of the Vikings (Mead) came from honey Beyla was in charge of that too. Although a goddess, Beyla was a faithful servant of Freyja and her husband Byggvir a faithful servant of Freyr. Freyja and Freyr were twins and children to the sea god, Njord. Freyja was the goddess of love, beauty, and wealth and her twin Freyr the god of peace, fertility, rain & sunshine. Her husband Byggvir and her were important figures in Norse Mythology. Beyla’s husband Byggvir was the god of Barley and his wife Beyla the goddess of Bees. They, as a pair, were the very depictions of the two favorite fermented beverages of the old Norse culture Mead and Ale.
You can find products from our company sold under two trade names. In addition to Beyla‘a Bees products we also sell items under our trade name Meigs County Honey. Being located in Meigs County, Ohio it’s not hard to see how we came up with this name. We are proud of our tiny farming community here in Meigs County and we are proud to sell our honey labeled as Meigs County Honey.
